Die Veranstaltung wird sich mit dem Thema „Soziale Ungleichheit im Studium“ auseinandersetzen. Hierbei werden verschiedene Ungleichheitsdimensionen wie beispielsweise das Geschlecht, der Migrationshintergrund und die soziale Herkunft betrachtet und deren Einfluss auf die einzelnen Aspekte des Studiums untersucht. Im Rahmen von eigenen Forschungsprojekten sollen die Studierenden eine eigene Fragestellung entwickeln und diese empirisch überprüfen. Gearbeitet wird mit den Daten der Sozialerhebung des Deutschen Studierendenwerks.
Methodisch dient die Veranstaltung dazu, dass in der Statistik Vorlesung erlernte Wissen anzuwenden und zu vertiefen. Hierbei wird insbesondere auf regressionsanalytische Verfahren zur Analyse von Querschnittsdaten eingegangen. Als Analysesoftware wird Stata verwendet.
Die Forschungsprojekte können von den Studierenden in Gruppen bearbeitet werden. Als Studienleistung sind Assignments und die Vorstellung eigener Ergebnisse im Plenum vorgesehen. Die Prüfungsleistung besteht aus einem Forschungsbericht, in welchem eine Fragestellung aus dem Themenbereich des Seminars beantwortete werden soll.

Das Seminar richtet sich an Studierenden im Bachelor, welche das Modul "30-M2: Methoden der empirischen Sozialforschung (Grundlagen)" erfolgreich abgeschlossen haben. Erwünscht sind zusätzlich Grundkenntnisse in Stata.
