Die Europäische Union (EU) hat in den letzten 30 Jahren ein breites Portfolio „externer Beziehungen“ entwickelt. Diese Außenpolitik geht weit über die Gemeinsame Außen- und Sicherheitspolitik der EU hinaus. Das Seminar stellt in einem ersten Teil die wesentlichen Akteure und institutionellen Prozesse in der EU-Außenpolitik vor. In einem zweiten Teil diskutiert es anhand fünf ausgewählter Politikfelder – Weltwirtschaft, Klimawandel, Entwicklungshilfe, Governance der Digitalisierung und globale Sicherheitspolitik – die Rolle der EU in der Weltpolitik. In einem abschließenden dritten Teil beleuchtet das Seminar am Beispiel der Debatte über die strategische Autonomie der EU die Möglichkeiten und Grenzen ihrer weltpolitischen Aktivitäten im Zeitalter eines sich intensivierenden Wettbewerbs der Großmächte.
