Die späte römische Republik gehört zu den am intensivsten bearbeiteten Forschungsfeldern der Altertumswissenschaft mit einer ungebrochenen Breitenwirkung. Das Seminar verfolgt die wesentlichen Etappen der Krise, die das römische Gemeinwesen zunächst in die Bürgerkriege und dann in den Untergang ihrer Verfassung stürzten. Dabei werden neuere Forschungsergebnisse diskutiert, die in der schulischen Vermittlung meist noch nicht zur Kenntnis genommen wurden. Grundlage ist eine Quellensammlung, die in Stud-IP abrufbar ist.
