Die Einführung soll die Studierenden in Grundfragen des Faches einführen. Mit diesen Grundfragen hängen auch Grundfertigkeiten literaturwissenschaftlichen Arbeitens zusammen. Thematisiert werden dabei:
• Theoretische Selbstverständigung über zentrale Anliegen des Faches Literaturwissenschaft
• Differenzbildung zur Schule durch theoretischen Zugang
• Analysetechniken (insbes. Gattungsanalysen) und Terminologien des Faches
• Wissenschaftliche Arbeitstechniken
• Einführung in das wissenschaftliche Schreiben

Die Veranstaltung gliedert sich in Hauptveranstaltung (Seminar) und Übung: In beiden sind vorbereitende Textlektüren und Schreibaufgaben zur Ergebnissicherung vorgesehen.
Für Studierende des Studienmodells 2011 ist keine benotete Leistung vorgesehen. Für die ST ist die gelingende Beiteiligung an den Schreibübungen Voraussetzung.
Für Studierende des Studienmodells 2002 ist zusätzlich zu den Anforderungen für die AT/ST die Erbringung einer benoteten Einzelleistung notwendig.
