The Global Health module gives students the opportunity to gain a broad overview and critical insights into the current global health landscape. The module is expected to introduce students to the basic theoretical foundations, methodologies and tools in the field of global health from an interdisciplinary perspective. Furthermore, the course will explore and provide critical insights regarding some of the current strategic commitments and agendas, stakeholders and platforms, and the key debates, controversies and challenges in this area.
The Global Health module is divided into a mix of virtual instruction sessions and blocks held on Thursdays and Fridays via Zoom and instructor-guided self-study sessions.
In addition to this, students complete a mix of individual and group work before, during and after each session.
The main assessment requirement of the module is the development of a policy brief on a global health topic of the student’s choosing. The module requirement (Studienleistung) is to develop the policy brief and present and discuss this in class. The module assessment (Prüfungsleistung) is to elaborate their idea into a detailed policy brief and submit it for graded assessment.
Due to the current COVID19 pandemic, the study tour to Bonn will not take place in WiSe 2020/21. Instead, representatives from multilateral and German organisations working in global health and related areas, as well as other guest speakers will be invited as guest speakers. These sessions will provide students with valuable and highly relevant real-world insights into the scope, strategic priorities and initiatives of global health agencies.
Full details about the Global Health module learning objectives, core competencies, topics and assessment can be found in the module syllabus.
