This seminar explores the synergies between legal and literary narratives, as well as the key techniques and theories for their critical interpretation. We will consider conceptualizations in law and literature (e.g., justice, innocence, illegality, revenge, punishment) and close read them with special focus on gender issues. Of interest will be questions on gender and genre, legal and literary representation, his/stories of reproductive justice & histories of production, etc. We will also consider theories on law in literature and law as literature, and study them in relation to canonical texts.
