In "Die Beschreibung der Zukunft" argumentiert Luhmann, dass die Zukunft erst in der Moderne als gestaltbar wahrgenommen wird. In funktional differenzierten Gesellschaften gibt es aber keine gemeinsame, sondern nur eine je funktionsbereichspezifische Zukünfte. Risiko erweist sich als besonderes Mittel der Zukunftsgestaltung, was auch in der risikosoziologischen Literatur zunehmend reflektiert wird.

Dieses Seminar nimmt seinen Ausgangspunkt in den Zeitstrukturen der modernen Gesellschaft und diskutiert die aktuelle Risikoliteratur mit Hinblick darauf, wie Zukünfte durch Risiko gestaltet werden.
