Bei Äußerungsbedeutung geht es allgemein darum, was ein Sprecher mit einer Äußerung meint. Die wörtliche oder Ausgangsbedeutung der in einer Äußerung verwendeten sprachlichen Ausdrücke ist dabei oft nur der Ausgangspunkt für eine Rekonstruktion der Äußerungsbedeutung, da Letztere oft über wörtliche Bedeutung hinausgeht. Wir werden uns mit einer Vielzahl von Phänomenen und Theorien beschäftigen, die dieses Mehr an über wörtliche Bedeutung hinausgehender Bedeutung in einer Äußerung thematisieren. Es wird dabei unter anderem um (indirekte) Sprechakte, Implikaturen, Metaphern, Satztypen, ferner verschiedene Phänomene der Informationsstruktur und der Textstrukturierung gehen.
