Die Bedingungen, Mechanismen und Prozesse der Veränderung sozialer Gebilde sind seit den Klassikern des Fachs ein Hauptthema soziologischer Theorie und Analyse. Die Entwicklung der vormodernen Ständegesellschaft zur modernen, funktional differenzierten Gesellschaft, die Modernisierung der Moderne zum Sozialstaat, der Zusammenbruch des real existierenden Sozialismus und Prozesse der Globalisierung sind z. B. Phänomene sozialen Wandels, die die Soziologie zu verstehen und zu erklären versucht. Im Rahmen des Seminars sollen mit Blick auf gesamtgesellschaftlichen Wandel klassische und gegenwärtige Ansätze gemeinsam erarbeitet und kritisch diskutiert werden.
