Was ist Kapitalismus? Die einfache Antwort lautet, dass es sich um eine Wirtschafts- und Gesellschaftsordnung handelt, deren zentralen Merkmale das Privateigentum an Produktionsmitteln, das Streben nach Profit, die Marktsteuerung und die Lohnarbeit sind. Wie der Kapitalismus entstanden ist, wie er sich global als zentrale Form des Wirtschaftens ausgebreitet hat, wie er funktioniert, wie er sich verändert und mit welchen gesellschaftlichen Konflikten dies verbunden ist, wird in unterschiedlichen theoretischen Analysen thematisiert.
Das Seminar bietet eine einführende Auseinandersetzung mit klassischen (z.B. Marx, Weber, Sombart) Kapitalismustheorien. Darüber hinaus diskutieren wir in der zweiten Hälfte des Seminars aktuelle Diagnosen zum Wandel und Ende des Kapitalismus.
Es werden Aufsätze und Auszüge aus Büchern gelesen. Eine Bereitschaft zur Textarbeit wird deshalb vorausgesetzt.
