230304 Teaching World Englishes (S) (SoSe 2021)

Contents, comment

At university and through travel, you have probably come across varieties of English that are different from the English you learned in school. This class is designed to make you more aware of the numerous varieties of English around the world as well as help you understand and describe how they evolved and the factors that have shaped them. This includes looking at detailed linguistic descriptions as well as the larger socio-cultural context. Throughout the semester, you will have the opportunity to research a variety you are interested in and come up with ideas how to design and use teaching material on varieties of English in a German secondary school classroom.
