261054 Bibliometrics and Open Access (S) (WiSe 2015/2016)

Contents, comment

As scientific publication processes are changing towards completely digitalized systems, open access publishing models are becoming more and more popular. However, large differences show up between disciplines regarding open access developments. Bibliometric methods can be used to analyze these developments empirically.

Basic strategies and current challenges of open access will be topics of the seminar. The potential of bibliometrics as a tool for empirically oriented science studies will be explored.

Participants will become acquainted with basics of bibliometrics and perform practical studies in appropriate databases to analyse discipline specific open access developments.
