Der Kurs ist eine Einführung in soziologische Perspektiven zum Natur-Gesellschafts-Verhältnis. Im Zentrum des Seminars stehen Herausforderungen soziologischer Theoriebildung durch gesellschaftliche Entwicklungen im "naturalen" Zusammenhang. Im Laufe des Kurses werden klassische und zeitgenössische Ansätze der Umweltsoziologie und angrenzender Disziplinen erarbeitet, um sie an aktuellen Problemlagen der Gesellschafts-Natur-Wechselwirkung anzuwenden. Hierzu gehören z.B. Schriften zur Landschaftsästhetik von Georg Simmel, die klassische Humanökologie der Chicagoer Schule oder aktuelle Diskussionen zu ökologischem Bewußstsein, der Risikoproblematik und ökologischer Modernisierung. Gastredner zu ausgewählten Themen wie globaler Klimaerwärmung, der Versicherbarkeit von Umweltkatastrophen oder nachhaltigem Bauen und Wohnen sind geplant.
