Dieses Seminar beschäftigt sich mit ausgewählten Themen der Sozialstrukturanalyse, wie zum Beispiel Bildung, Erwerbsarbeit, Einkommen und Vermögen. Das Ziel des Seminars ist es, dass zum einen wichtige Theorien vorgestellt und kritisch hinterfragt werden. Zum anderen sollen Hypothesen, die sich aus den vorgestellten Theorien ableiten, empirisch geprüft werden. Dazu werden quantitative Datensätze herangezogen.

Das Seminar richtet sich an Studentinnen und Studenten, die an Fragestellungen der erklärenden Soziologie interessiert sind und die erste Schritte in die empirische Datenanalyse unternehmen wollen (auch als Vorbereitung für Lehrforschungen). Wir verwenden viel Zeit für Fragen rund um das Datenmanagement und deskriptive Statistik. Zum Hypothesentesten werden Regressionsverfahren verwendet, die im Seminar vorgestellt werden.
Wir verwenden die Statistikprogramme Stata und R, Vorkenntnisse sind hilfreich, aber nicht erforderlich.
