The Faculty of Technology offers a Bachelor's Major Subject in Informatics to meet the high demand for computer scientists. The programme can be combined with a minor subject or two minor subjects, enabling students to acquire skills in relevant areas. Previous knowledge is not required, but an interest in digital information processing and a good command of English are an advantage.
Mathematics includes discrete mathematics, linear algebra, analysis, differential equations as well as probability theory and statistics in order to train the foundations of informatics. In informatics, central subjects such as programming, algorithms, software engineering, databases and theoretical informatics are taught to provide a solid foundation for professional life and to facilitate the transition to Master's degree programmes.
The degree programmes offer different profiles: "Computer Engineering" deals with computer architecture and operating systems, "Bioinformatics" focuses on sequence analysis and cheminformatics, while "Modelling" teaches skills in formal logic, visual computing and machine learning.
Key elements of the professional qualification are the project-orientated software group project and the Bachelor's thesis. Programming skills are taught in modules such as programming, algorithms and computer architecture, including machine-oriented programming with C and assembler.
The programme ensures that students acquire a sound knowledge of the fundamental methods and procedures of informatics in order to meet the challenges of fast-moving information technology. In addition, application-orientated software training lays the foundation for both an academic career and a successful appointment.
You will find the programme of lectures for this course in the eKVV.
An overview of the introductory and information events is provided by the central student counselling services.
The standard period of studies is 6 semesters. Information on studying part time can be found on the following webpage.
The studies Major Subject (Academic) Informatics comprise 120 credit points.
