Das Studium vermittelt das für den modernen Latein-Unterricht obligatorische fachwissenschaftliche und fachdidaktische Kompetenzprofil. Es vermittelt den Studierenden ein strukturiertes Fachwissen zu den grundlegenden Gebieten der Lateinischen Philologie sowie eine fundierte Sprachkompetenz (passiv und aktiv) ebenso wie die einschlägigen fachwissenschaftliche Erkenntnis- und Arbeitsmethoden.
Die Studierenden sollen ein reflektiertes Orientierungs- und ein reflektiert-vertieftes Spezialwissen zu den zentralen Bereichen der lateinisch-römischen Sprache, Literatur, Kultur und Gesellschaft sowie Geistesgeschichte in ihren jeweiligen Kontexten sowie in ihrer Bedeutung für den europäischen Kulturraum erwerben.
Sie eignen sich zudem ein exemplarisches Wissen sowohl zu der lateinisch-sprachigen Literatur der Spätantike, des Mittelalters bzw. des Renaissance-Humanismus als auch zu zentralen Epochen der griechischen Literatur in deren Bedeutung für die römische Literatur an.
Das Studium beider Profile soll die Studierenden jeweils befähigen, die erlernten Inhalte im Kontext einer europa- und gegenwartsbezogenen Rezeption der Antike auch fachübergreifend mit anderen Disziplinen (Geschichte, Kunst, Religion, Philosophie, gesellschaftswissenschaftliche Fächer) zu vernetzen und zu vermitteln, und sie in die Lage versetzen, die alten Sprachen und die Inhalte, die mit ihnen transportiert werden, in Bildungskontexten bzw. im Bildungs- und Fremdsprachenprofil der
Schule umfassend zu legitimieren und für ein reflektiertes Verständnis Europas und seiner Geistesgeschichte anzumahnen.

Access to the Bachelor programme is granted to those who have a university entrance qualification suitable for Germany (e. g. German ‘Abitur’).

Voraussetzung für die Einschreibung ist der Nachweis der sprachlichen Eignung, die der Feststellung dient, ob ein*e Bewerber*in die Kompetenz in der lateinischen Sprache besitzt, die das Erreichen des Studienzieles erwarten lässt (Eignungsfeststellungsverfahren). Voraussetzung für die Teilnahme an dem Eignungsfeststellungsverfahren ist der Nachweis des Latinums. Die Eignungsfeststellung erfolgt in Form eines schriftlichen Tests im Umfang von 90 Minuten und ggf. ergänzender 20-30 minütiger mündlicher Prüfung.

Application, admission and enrolment
The study places are not subject to any admission restrictions (numerus clausus). Nevertheless, you need to apply within the currently applicable application deadlines. Afterwards, however, you can submit your application for enrolment directly in the application and status portal, provided that you meet the access requirements. If you are already enrolled at Bielefeld University, you need to apply for a change of degree programme.
