Informatics

Systems, methods and knowledge in Computer Science are an integral part of modern industrialised societies and have found their way into all areas of our lives. Computer science deals with the systematic and automated processing of information, which can be available in a wide variety of formats (image, sound, text document, ...). The degree programme 'Informatics' at Bielefeld University offers students the opportunity to learn essential concepts of computer science and to apply them in interdisciplinary contexts. Special attention is paid to programming, the structure of computer systems and the development of software solutions.

Students acquire basic knowledge of programming, the structure of computer systems and theoretical computer science. They learn to describe problems algorithmically and are able to plan and implement software projects. A practical approach is an integral part of the degree programme, whereby application-oriented projects and interdisciplinary collaboration are encouraged. Graduates are well prepared for a wide range of career prospects, including jobs in software development, IT consulting and data analysis, as well as robotics and artificial intelligence applications.

The aim of the programme is to enable students to make technically sound decisions in these diverse contexts and to work creatively so that they can actively shape the IT systems of the future.
