996010 Scholarly argumentation (WS) (WiSe 2025/2026)

The course offers a sustained training in scholarly argumentation. Upon acquiring the basics of scholarly argumentation both in longer article and shorter essay formats, course participants are expected to venture into putting their acquired skills into practice and write a short argumentative essay.

The course consists of two days, in a block seminar format: 9 January and 6 February 2026. The first day of the course offers a training in scholarly argumentation, involving reading assignments pre-circulated before the course starts (available to download from the beginning of December). The first day concludes with a practical assignment to write a short argumentative essay in the 4-week gap between the two seminar days. The group will discuss and evaluate the assignments on the second seminar day in February.

The course is primarily offered to doctoral researchers of the BGHS. If there are places left doctoral researchers of other faculties are welcome to participate. Please register for the course by sending an e-mail to bghs@uni-bielefeld.de.
