Die vormoderne ordo-Vorstellung, die jedem Stand und jedem Beruf spezifische Aufgaben und Verantwortlichkeiten in der Gesellschaft zuschrieb, hat konsequenterweise zu Katalogen von Verfehlungen geführt, die einzelnen Ständen in besonderer Weise vorzuwerfen sind. Scheint zunächst die (lateinische und volkssprachige) Predigt der Ort gewesen zu sein, an dem spezielle Standeslaster kritisiert wurden, so bildeten sich seit dem hohen Mittelalter auch literarische Gattungen heraus, die in gnomischer oder allegorischer Form standesdifferenzierte Gesellschaftskritik formulierten. Das Seminar befasst sich mit diesen spätmittelalterlichen Dichtungen (z.B. 'Buch der Rügen', 'Des Teufels Netz', 'Schachzabelbuch'), die sowohl im Hinblick auf literarische Gattungen und Formen (Satire, Narrenliteratur) als auch in Bezug auf die gesellschaftspolitischen Kritikpunkte untersucht werden sollen.
