Wie versetzen Organisationen ihre Mitglieder in die Lage Gewalt auszuüben? Können die organisationalen Strukturen gewalthemmend sein? Üben Organisationsmitglieder auch gegen ihren Willen Gewalt aus, wenn es von ihnen erwartet wird? Welche Rolle spielt ihre Motivation, Ideologie oder Überzeugung bei der organisierten Gewaltausübung? Diesen Fragen werden wir uns im Seminar aus organisationssoziologischer Perspektive widmen. Hierfür werden wir zunächst anhand zentraler Texte der soziologischen Gewaltforschung ein gemeinsames Verständnis von Gewalt und ihrer soziologischen Erforschung erarbeiten. Ebenfalls werden wir einige organisationssoziologische Konzepte kennen lernen, um mit diesen Kenntnissen eine Reihe an empirischen Fallstudien zu lesen. Das Lesen der Fallstudien wird dabei den Großteil des Seminars umfassen. Hier werden wir auf unterschiedlich organisierte Kontexte treffen: Militär, Terrororganisationen sowie der Mafia. Ziel des Seminars ist, dass Sie am Ende in der Lage sind (organisationssoziologische) Fragestellungen zu formulieren, um sie z.B. für Hausarbeiten zu nutzen.
