In this class we will study Shakespeare’s sonnets. The course is conceived both as an introduction to the sonnet in general (form, tradition, development) and Shakespeare’s poetic work in its Elizabethan context in particular. The focus will be on analysing an interpreting, but also on reading and performing Shakespeare's poetry.
Please acquire a copy of the "Sonnets". Only use the Arden or New Shakespeare edition:

Studienleistungen and credit points will be awarded for written analyses. All participants will be required to do poetry performances in class.
