Im Zentrum des Seminars steht die „entscheidungstheoretische Phase“ in Niklas Luhmanns Auseinandersetzung mit Organisationen, die trotz einschlägigen Vorarbeiten erst mit dem Vortrag zum Thema „Organisation und Entscheidung“ vor der Rheinisch-Westfälischen Akademie der Wissenschaften – beginnt (Luhmann 1978; 1981) und mit dem gleichnamigen Spätwerk postum endet (Luhmann 2000). Der Hauptteil des Seminars wird sich auf Wunsch von Studierenden auf die Lektüre des Spätwerks (Luhmann 2000) beziehen. Einzelne theoriehistorische Rückversicherungen sollen das Seminar dabei allerdings begleiten, um dieser am Ende vergleichsweise abstrakten Theorie, die Organisation als Systeme aus Entscheidungen auffasst, verständlich(er) macht.

Der Lektürekurs richtet sich an Studierende, die möglichst bereits Vorkenntnisse in der Organisationssoziologie oder der soziologischen Systemtheorie erworben haben sollen, bestensfalls mit dem organisationssoziologischen Frühwerk Luhmanns ("Funktionen und Folgen formaler Organisation") in Grundzügen vertraut sind.
