This seminar is intended for those intending to teach at primary (Grundschule) level.
Of the three courses in Profile Module 8 this should be taken first, as it functions as an introduction to the module. The other two courses in the module assume knowledge from this course and build upon that knowledge. The course offers a survey of methods and approaches suited to the teaching of English as a foreign language to young learners.
This is an introductory course and should be the first taken in Module 8. It is specifically aimed at those planning to teach at primary level.
Coursebook: Cameron, Lynne (2001), Teaching Languages to Young Learners. Cambridge: Cambridge University Press.
There will also be readings from Richards & Rodgers (2001), Legutke et al. (2009), Pinter (2006), Lennon (2008) and Skorge (2006, 2008).

Everyone, including those who only need two credit points, will be required to take part in a presentation, with the main focus on a microteaching sequence. Presentation groups should also prepare a short handout and post it, or their presentation slides, on StudIP. Those who need 3 LPs will get part of their mark for their presentation and part for a written paper handed in some weeks after the end of the seminar. There will not be a class test for marks, but everyone will take part in a class quiz. A satisfactory performance in this is regarded as part of active participation.
