The main purpose of this seminar is to make sure that students are able to form and to recognize grammatically acceptable sentences and that they understand how the selection of appropriate grammatical structures and word choices arise from various contexts and situation, and are influenced by the speaker's/writer's intended communicative objectives.
The course will provide an overview of the grammatical structure of English sentences and the types of choices that must be made in composing sentences. The special difficulties of German learners will be the primary focus of our discussion and will form the most important basis for the various exercises and practice activities that we will engage in.
You must have passed the departmental Entrance Test or one of the recognized equivalents to take part in this course. If you are assigned a place in this course, you must be there at the first meeting to claim your place or it will be given to someone on the waiting list. Students who drop out of this course after the first 4 weeks without a good reason will not be given priority in getting a place in future grammar courses.

Assigned activities will provide practice in those areas that are especially problematic for German learners in general. You must discover where you personally need more practice and then take steps to improve. You must complete at least 70% of the classroom exercises and activities to earn credit for this course. This work will help you to assess your personal strengths and deficits and to increase your proficiency level. There is a one Module Examination for all the Language Practice courses. (Basismodul 1)
