Technological change in recent decades has led to an expansion of social and societal interaction spaces. People's behavior and communication recorded via online platforms, technical devices, and specialized software can be used to study existing or emerging social phenomena. So-called digital behavioral data (DBD), i.e., data generated by people's behavior in the digital world, can be used for this purpose.
This seminar provides a step-by-step introduction to the use of DBD: from data collection to data preparation and analysis. Students will gain a deeper understanding of how DBD can be utilized, the methodological and ethical challenges that can arise, and the analytical methods that can be used to gain insightful knowledge about social phenomena.
