Imperialismus ist in der Soziologie lange vergessen worden. Für ein Relikt vergangener Zeiten oder eine Deformation der Moderne gehalten, wurde seine gesellschaftliche und gesellschaftsgeschichtliche Bedeutung unterschätzt. Das Seminar befasst sich mit den Fragen, was Imperialismus ist, woran man ihn erkennen kann und welche Bedeutung er für die Moderne und Gegenwart hat, um daraufhin theoretische und empirische Perspektiven für eine soziologische Imperialismusforschung zu erschließen.
