In der Erziehungswissenschaft sind neben der Betrachtung einzelner Personen und deren Erziehungs-, Bildungs- und Sozialisationsverläufen auch einzelne Bildungsinstitutionen Gegenstand von Einzelfallstudien. Im Gegensatz zu breit angelegten Stichprobenuntersuchungen, die viele Untersuchungseinheiten ausschnitthaft betrachten, soll mit einer Einzelfallstudie ein zu untersuchender Fall möglichst ganzheitlich und detailliert erfasst werden. Die forschungsmethodische Auseinandersetzung mit dem Fall, die qualitative und quantitative Forschungsmethoden umfasst, soll in dieser Vorlesung im Überblick vorgestellt werden.
