Das Blockseminar führt die Studierenden anwendungsorientiert in zentrale Begriffe, Konzepte und Methoden der Sozialen Netzwerkanalyse (SNA) ein. Hierbei werden neben bekannten netzwerkanalytischen Ansätzen wie Granovetters (1973) Stärke von schwachen Beziehungen oder McPherson et al.s (2001) Homophilie-Prinzip auch grundlegende Techniken zur Aufbereitung, Visualisierung und explorativen Analyse von Netzwerkdaten vermittelt. Darüber hinaus führen die Studierenden eine eigene Netzwerkanalyse im Rahmen einer selbst entwickelten Forschungsfrage durch.

Lernziele der Veranstaltung sind die Vermittlung zentraler Begriffe und Konzepte der SNA (u.a. Dichte, Zentralität, Cliquen, soziale Rollen und Positionen) sowie eine Einführung in die empirische Analyse und Modellierung von Netzwerken.

Im ersten Teil der Veranstaltung erhalten die Studierenden eine Einführung in die oben genannten Konzepte und Analysemethoden der SNA. Im zweiten Teil werden zunächst ausgewählte netzwerkanalytische Arbeiten diskutiert, bevor die Studierenden abschließend ihre eigenen Projektarbeiten im Plenum präsentieren.
