Welches Erbe der Aufklärung können – oder wollen – wir retten? Lässt sich die Aufklärung als historisches Phänomen mit einem spezifischen Gedankengut überhaupt eingrenzen? Inwiefern sind bestimmte Ideen von Universalismus, Zivilisation und Laizismus, die auf die Aufklärung zurückgeführt werden, heute noch vertretbar bzw. gewaltig umstritten?
Diese Sprachübung bezweckt es, diesen höchst aktuellen Fragen anhand französischsprachiger Primär- und Sekundärliteratur auf den Grund zu gehen.Als Referenzwerk gilt die jüngst erschienene Monographie des Historikers Antoine Lilti: „L’Héritage des Lumières: Ambivalences de la modernité.“ Von diesem Buch werden wir mehrere Auszüge in Originalsprache erschließen und diskutieren. Die Auswahl von weiteren Texten aus der Primärliteratur (v.a. aus dem 18. Jahrhundert) zur Vertiefung einzelner Aspekte wird im Seminar gemeinsam getroffen.
Eine regelmäßige Vorbereitung der Lektüre inkl. dem Nachschlagen von Vokabeln in Lexika ist Voraussetzung für die erfolgreiche Teilnahme an dieser Veranstaltung.
