Institutionalized international cooperation comes in various shades: it can be a formal cooperation established by an international agreement such in the case of international governmental organizations or it can be an informal cooperation where state representatives meet on a regular basis without any formal organization such in the case of interstate groups like the G7 or G20. These examples are representing only two different forms of institutionalized. This course aims at analyzing and comparing different forms of institutionalized international cooperation and the contribution to world order.
The course is organized in three sections. The first section is dedicated to get a general overview on what international organizations and groups are and how they are theoretically conceptualized. Section II aims at systemizing the myriad of international organizations and groups, developing categories for comparison and identifying different sorts of contributions to world order. In section III the preparatory works of sections I and II are combined and used to analyze and compare different examples of institutionalized international cooperation.
