Die Beschäftigung mit Gewalt berührt alle Beratungsfelder: ob Erziehungsberatung, Pflegeberatung, Schulberatung, … oder Frauenberatung, Männerberatung, Mädchenberatung, … in jedem Feld werden gewaltförmige Erfahrungen und daraus resultierende gesundheitliche und sozioökonomische Folgen von Ratsuchenden thematisiert. Grundlage für reflektiertes Beratungshandeln sind Kenntnisse der rechtlichen Rahmenbedingungen zum Opferschutz, kritische Auseinandersetzung mit den in der Beratungspraxis angewandten psychotherapeutischen/ psychotraumatologischen Ansätzen und die Einbeziehung sozialwissenschaftlicher Konzepte zur theoretischen Fundierung einer pädagogischen Beratung, die gesellschaftlichen Macht- und Ungleichheitsverhältnissen in der Einzelfallhilfe Raum gibt.

Grundkenntnisse der gesetzlichen Rahmenbedingungen und Interventionszusammenhänge der verschiedenen Akteure im Feld von Gewaltschutz (Beratung, Polizei, Jugendhilfe) werden vorausgesetzt bzw. die Bereitschaft, sich diese Grundlagen parallel zum Seminar zu erarbeiten.
