Wenn jemand die Kunst zu lieben in diesem Volk noch nicht kennt, dann soll er dies hier lesen und nach Lektüre des Gedichts gelehrt lieben
– ein großes Versprechen, das der Dichter an den Anfang seines Lehrgedichts in elegischen Distichen stellt: Als ob die Liebe eine erlernbare Fähigkeit wäre!
Wir werden in diesem Semester in ausgiebiger und gründlicher Lektüre erkunden, was hinter dem Ansinnen des Dichters steckt, einen Gegenstand zu lehren, den man eigentlich nicht lehren kann, und mit welchen Mitteln es ihm gelingt, die Liebe, amor, zu einer erlernbaren Technik, ars, zu machen.
Auf unserem Weg durch den Text folgen wir dem Dichter auf der Suche nach puellae quer durch Mythologie, durch Literatur und durch das augusteische Rom.
