Spätestens seit Interventionen wie Hans Beltings „Bild und Kult“ (1990), Gottfried Böhms „Was ist ein Bild?“ (1994), oder Peter Geimers „Bilder aus Versehen“(2010) wird die Bildfrage vehement und kontrovers diskutiert. Was überhaupt verstehen wir unter einem „Bild“? Was ist kein Bild oder noch kein Bild? Was tun wir mit Bildern und was wollen Bilder von uns? Und schließlich: Wodurch grenzt sich das Bild von anderen Artefakten ab?
Die seit einigen Jahrzehnten zu beobachtende Entgrenzung der Disziplin Kunstgeschichte hin zu einer umfassenderen Bildwissenschaft sowie die damit einhergehende Erweiterung des Gegenstandsbereiches – um ethnologische Objekte, digitale und bewegte Bilder, Diagramme, Graphen – verlangt zugleich nach Perspektiven, wie dieser Heterogenität methodisch angemessen zu begegnen ist.
Im Seminar sollen die „Bilderfragen“ anhand einer gezielten Auswahl von Texten und Objekten erörtert und diskutiert werden.
