Language: German/English. During the first four meetings, lessons will be held in German, rest in English. From 16th May onward, Rory Rapple, Notre Dame University, will join in.
Please register at Bielefeld e-learning platform “Stud.ip” (Password: Revolten).
The seminar is linked to the course (Historische Kontextualisierung) “Sacred Kings, Shameful Tyrants, Rebellious Noblemen: Structures of Power and Revolt in Premodern Times “.

The seminar is to dig deeper into the structure of power in premodern times. In order to conceptualize what ‘power’ really means, we focus on resistance and rebellions against kings, but also against city-councils and urban elites. Resistance and rebellion, in this respect, also serve as a tool to ‘discover’ the structural peculiarities of premodern society.
