220066 Land und Reichtum: Extraktivismus und die (Re-)Produktion von Reichtum in Lateinamerika seit dem 19. Jahrhundert (S) (SoSe 2024)

Lateinamerika ist die Weltregion mit der ungleichsten Landverteilung weltweit. In diesem Seminar wird ein Blick auf die historische Genealogie der Landkonzentration seit dem 19. Jahrhundert geworfen. Dabei stehen diverse Themenfelder im Zentrum des Interesses: ökonomischer Dependenz und der Anbau von Cash-Crops (Zucker, Kaffee, Banane, Kakao bis hin zu Soja und Palmöl aber auch Coca, Marihuana und Schlafmohn); sozialhistorische Ausbeutungsverhältnisse; ökologische Folgen von Monokulturen; politische Einflussnahme und Staatsformation; die soziale Reproduktion der landbesitzenden Elite sowie das kulturelle Selbstverständnis der Elite. Diese Themenfelder werden exemplarisch anhand von Beispielen aus der Region aufgearbeitet.
Besonders betrachtet wird die Frage der Landnahme (land-grabbing). Dazu beteiligen sich die Seminarteilnehmer aktiv an der internationalen Tagung “Towards a History of Agrarian Colonization in Latin America: Concepts and Dynamics in the XIX and XX Centuries”, die am 8. und 9. Juli 2024 im ZiF stattfindet.
