260025 Introduction to Philosophy of Science (S) (WiSe 2021/2022)

Contents, comment

What is science and how does it work? The picture of “the scientific method” that most of us learn in school is a simplified version of scientific practice. In this course, you will acquire a deeper understanding of the concepts, methods and difficulties that make up real-life scientific research. Specific topics include: what distinguishes science from pseudoscience? What are the goals of science? How do scientists attain knowledge about the world? What is the status of scientific knowledge? We will meet weekly for the duration of the semester. Each meeting will consist of a lecture, followed by class discussion.
