Die Vorlesung beschäftigt sich mit der deutschen Geschichte im 20. Jahrhundert. Sie fragt nach dem Ort des Nationalsozialismus im letzten Jahrhundert, nach den Voraussetzungen, der Entwicklung und den zentralen Akteuren einer autoritären Gesellschaft, von Holocaust und Krieg. Fragen von nationaler Identität werden ebenso diskutiert wie Prozesse der Erinnerungskonstruktion in beiden deutschen Staaten nach 1945. Der zeitliche Bogen reicht vom Ersten Weltkrieg und der Weimarer Republik bis zu den 1990er Jahren.
