250197 The Art of Living – Empirical Research on a Philosophical Concept (S) (WiSe 2021/2022)

Contents, comment

This research-oriented class can basically be split into two parts: In the first half of the semester, educational theories will be discussed.

Special attention will be dedicated on Wilhelm Schmid's concept of the 'beautiful life' which tries to connect educational philosophy with psychological research on well-being and life satisfaction. In the second part of this course, students will learn how to conduct, transcribe, and (qualitatively) analyze/interpret interviews.

Students will be asked to conduct one interview - trying to empirically verify/falsify Schmid's philosophy in regular people - themselves, transcribe the results, and discuss the findings in class. Thereby, this class covers a cutting-edge topic and tries to widen the angle of already existing literature and research.

This class will be organized through the Lernraum in which content (presentation, texts, videos, pod-casts) will be distributed. Apart from these asynchronous parts, zoom meetings (four through the semes-ter) will be held to discuss the content as well as preparing students to conduct research themselves.
