Die Herstellung von ethnischer Differenz und "Fremdheit" in der Pädagogik, vor allem aber durch die Pädagogik und ihre Institutionen stehen im Mittelpunkt der Arbeit im Seminar. Mit Blick auf den schulischen wie außerschulischen Bereich gilt es, Fremdheitskonstruktionen ausfindig zu machen und zu dekonstruieren. Zu beleuchten sind sie in ihrer Funktion für die Pädagogik wie in ihrer diskursiven und praktischen Reichweite. Die allseits skandalisierte und empirisch signifikante Bildungsbenachteiligung der Schülerinnen und Schüler mit Migrationshintergrund lässt sich in dieser Perspektive sowohl in einem sozialkonstruktivistischen wie diskriminierungstheoretischen Licht beleuchten.
