Love poetry is one of the oldest and most vibrant forms of poetry in Literary History. This course is conceived both as an introduction to the reading of English poetry, in general, and as an exploration of Renaissance love poetry as a formative period of the genre, in particular. By reading a wide range of different poetic texts from Shakespeare and his contemporaries the course will attempt to provide students with a deeper understanding of poetic form & genre and the cultural contexts of the English Renaissance.
