This course will give PhD students the opportunity to discuss methodological aspects (methodology and methods) of their thesis. The main focus will be in comparative case studies in Latin America but participants with strong interests in qualitative methods will be also very welcome.
The main topics discussed during the seminar will be the following:
1. Presentation: general overview on research methods.
2. Qualitative methods and comparative case studies from a political economy approach.
2.1. Literature review. The contours of the Debate. How to identify a gap in the literature.
2.2. Case studies: justification and comparative dimensions.
3. The writing-up process and the Viva: some tips. The final outcome expected from your thesis.
4. Final comments and questions. Identifying relevant journals on the field.
