The Praktikum is divided into the practical part in school and the course at the University.

You'll be in school one day per week (Louisenschule Realschule or Laborschule Grundschule) during the semester (15 weeks) for about 4 hours - the day and time will be coordinated individually with the teachers in school.

The following competences are about what you can expect from the university course:
The focus of this course is on diagnosing learner’s current levels of language proficiency and finding ways to further every child on their current level in their learning process of English. You’ll first get to know different diagnostic instruments (such as observation sheets, diagnostic tests, etc.) and learn about the importance of diagnosis in school. After that, we’ll look at the heterogeneity of classrooms and learn about various concepts to support ALL learners, the struggling as well as the highly talented ones. Those ideas will be transferred into practical tasks and activities which can be conducted in school.
Further, you’ll deepen your knowledge about open learning and about the practical side of organising open learning in a classroom.
You’ll also get a basic idea of research in the language classroom, as you’ll be doing small-scale research projects. We’ll look at different areas for research, formulate research questions and get a basic understanding of research methods and instruments.
