In dieser Lehrveranstaltung werden zunächst die linguistischen Teildisziplinen der Phonetik und Phonologie behandelt. Während sich die Phonetik insbesondere mit den artikulatorischen und akustischen Aspekten der Sprache im Allgemeinen beschäftigt, stehen in der Phonologie die lautlichen Strukturen als Einheiten im System einer Einzelsprache im Vordergrund. Die Orthographie (bzw. Graphematik) untersucht die Frage, wie ein einzelnes Schriftsystem eine Sprache repräsentiert, wobei im deutschen Schriftsystem neben phonologischen auch morphologische, syntaktische und semantische Aspekte eine Rolle spielen.
