Our mental life is very rich: we think, desire, hope, fear, and so on. When we are in these mental states, presumably certain events happen in our brains. Neuroscience provides a lot of evidence to the effect that there is a systematic correlation between our mental states/events and certain brain states/events. But what is the exact relationship between the former and the latter? Are mental states just brain states? Or are they something different? And if they are something different, how can they, for instance, cause actions, which are physical events? In this seminar, we will address these and more questions about the relationship between mind and brain, reading and discussing some classical texts in the philosophy of mind.
