The concept of the frontier has always had a special place in the US-American narrative, both in its literary and cinematic depiction. Since media emerges as a strong space of (re)negotiation of identity, this seminar engages with recent representations of the frontier in contemporary US-American film. Taking an interdisciplinary perspective, we will thus navigate, examine, and challenge old and new constructs, interpretations, and limitations of the American frontier with a focus on film analysis. Please note that this seminar will take place online!
