In der Übung werden grundlegende Kenntnisse in der biologischen Vielfalt (Systematik), der Ökologie und Umweltbildung sowie der Produktion von Lebensmittel (Schulgartenbiologie) vermittelt. Im Exkursionsanteil werden Pflanzen und Tiere in ihren Lebensräumen aufgesucht, deren Lebensbedingungen untersucht sowie wesentliche Prinzipien der Evolution erarbeitet. Beim Lehrangebot Mensch liegt der Schwerpunkt im Erwerb von fachgemäßen Kenntnissen über die Leistungen des menschlichen Körpers (z.B.: Ernährung, Gesundheit, Sinne, Sexualität). Es werden Kenntnisse und Fertigkeiten im Bereich Hypothesen-geleiteten Experimentierens sowohl bei zoologischen als auch bei botanischen Fragestellungen vermittelt.
