Die anzukündigende Übung will in erster Linie Spaß an der lateinischsprachigen Originaltextlektüre vermitteln. Aus diesem Grunde hat sie ein spätantikes Werk zum Gegenstand, das sprachlich überaus einfach gestaltet ist. Gleichwohl darf es für sich auch ein hohes literaturgeschichtliches Interesse beanspruchen. Ein gewisser Dares Phrygius, angeblicher Augenzeuge des trojanischen Krieges, erzählt seine (nicht selten gegen den homerischen Strich gebürstete) Version des mythischen Geschehens.
