Contemporary British fiction is so diversified a field that it is almost impossible to point to movements, trends, or subgenres. However, a certain uneasiness concerning the dream of a perfect love relationship and the concpet of an ideal family life - both of which are such central notions of personal happiness in our society - is a common denominator to a great number of novels. In this class, we will read and discuss a number of short stories and novels that deal with the problematic aspect of personal happiness in life, with a special focus on the family and relationships.
