Please note that the course will take place ONLINE (via Zoom) in late September/early October before the lecture time starts on October 11. Time & Dates are to be announced. For students, who are already in Bielefeld in the beginning of October, an additional in-person meeting will be organized. A further in-person meeting will be organized in the middle of the semester (in December).
The English-language introduction seminar provides an overview of the MA Sociology International Track at Bielefeld University.
The target group of the seminar is international students who start studying the master sociology programm in the winter semester 2021/22.
The course introduces the study programme of the MA Sociology International Track and offers help with individual timetables for the summer semester. The course gives you the opportunity to meet your peers in the MA Sociology International Track and to get familiar with some important faculty structures. The course offers enough room for your individual needs and ideas. We will discuss the essence of the sociological lens, the academic writing reguirements at Bielefeld University and further topics which help you to start your studies succesfully. Furthermore, students will attend a two-day workshop "Academic Skills Development".
For students proficient in German:
This introduction to the MA Sociology (International Track) is designed for students with no or limited German language skills. For introduction on the study programme of the MA Sociology please visit introduction days organized by the student representatives (Fachschaft) in German.
Please note: The MA Sociology International Track and the MA Sociology are not two separate study courses! Both English-speaking and German-speaking admitted students are enrolled in the same study course "MA Sociology" and ALL courses in English and in German offered in the MA Scoiology are open for all students enrolled in MA Sociology.
As German-speking student, you are of course also welcome to participate in the Interntaional Track: If you complete at least 75 out of 120 credit points from MA Sociology International Track courses (courses taught in English and offered in MA Sociology), a certificate of completion of the International Track programme will be issued to you upon graduation. Your master's thesis must be written in English. All courses completed during semester abroad in the language other than German and recognized by the Faculty of Sociology, will be fully recognized as International Track courses.
