Biology explores the diversity of life and the principles governing biological systems – from molecular processes to the dynamics of entire ecosystems. The major subject in Biology provides a foundation in the theory and practice (laboratory and fieldwork) of the subject. The focus is on experiments, working with data and explaining complex relationships. The Faculty of Biology offers insights into current research questions through its research-oriented teaching.
In the degree programme, students choose three out of four subject areas in the specialisation phase:
• Genetics, Cell Biology, Physiology
• Ecology
• Behaviour and Neural Mechanisms
• Data Science in Biology
The Bachelor’s thesis is written in the major subject and allows for in-depth study. The major subject must be combined with a minor subject of the student’s choice.
Career paths range from Master’s programmes and research to industry, associations and public administration.
